We've been in business since 1946.

Family owned and operated Continental Furniture has been selling furniture in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood for more than 60 years.

The company was founded in 1946 by Al Moscatel, who started out selling sundries in Pike Place Market. Neiso Moscatel was just 15 years old when his father Al died and he and his older brother Raymond were suddenly running the family business.

It was 1953 and Neiso was still in high school and Raymond was attending Seattle University on a basketball scholarship. Neither had much experience working in the family business beyond occasionally helping out. "We would sell during the day and deliver ant night," Neiso recalled. It was a seven-day a week job. The company couldn't afford advertising. Instead the brothers relied on strong customer service to win them repeat business and referrals.

Eventually Raymond became a chiropractor and moved to California. Neiso stayed with the business and began to expand it, trying his hand at different ventures, such as selling carpeting. He kept what worked and sold what didn't. To prepare his children for running the business, Neiso had them start at the bottom, unloading trucks, unwrapping lamps and sweeping up so they could learn how the business operated.

Third generation brothers Al and Sam run the business now with the same commitment to customer service and attention to product quality that their father and grandfather had. Under Al and Sam's direction, the business has expanded to serve various market segments including Thomasville, a furniture rental division and Small Space/Big Solutions.
